Coffee coffee coffee...!

29th Jul 2024

We are stoked to announce that we've got ourselves a coffee machine - Clint from Yellow Roastery in Blenheim has been amazing in helping us get this set up and we are really excited about the potential to train our young people in house to learn barista skills.

It just makes sense doesn't it? Kaikōura has amazing cafes and restaurants and we want our young people to be able to walk into jobs with the skills and experience that mean they can hit the ground running. One way of doing this is to get them familiar with using a coffee machine. We're set up with a digital grinder and we have a manual 'click click' type as well, so that we can help our students learn both ways that they are likely to encounter here. Our MTFJ Coordinator, Aysia, has great barista skills and is helping the other staff members understand the basics so that we can all support our learners.
