Numbers and words
10th Feb 2020
Monday Maths - 3pm (ish!) until 4.30pm
With school back and settled in, we have restarted our weekly maths group. On Monday's after school we meet for kai and connection then kick into some learning using games and small groups. We've got quite a wide range of ages and abilities coming along which fosters tuakana-teina relationships - learning from peers.
Fun with words - Thursday's 3pm ish until 4.30pm
A new programme we are starting is a literacy based group. Exploring language and learning through fun and games, we encourage anyone interested in supporting their child to come and have a look at this. If whanau are able to join in with these weekly groups we really encourage this; you can cement the learning by repeating the games/rhymes/songs etc at home.

KYC Camp
17th Dec 2019
Kaikoura Youth Council finished up the year with a camp in Clarence!
We wound Kaikōura Youth Council up this year with a camp at Clarence - we went hunting, swimming, rafting, played Settlers of Catan, talked to a NCTIR engineer about the road construction, and just generally chilled out after a busy year. A massive thanks to all our youth council members - you've put in a huge year! Not everyone could make it on camp and some of you have come and gone a bit, but we value every one of you and appreciate your input into making Kaikōura a place where youth are optimistic, confident and make valued contributions.
Under water videoing
10th Dec 2019
Exploring South Bay marine environment in a totally new way...
What a great weekend we had at the Underwater Videography workshop. An awesome group of 15 rangatahi joined us to explore the underwater world at South Bay, learning film and camera techniques for both story telling and data collection, as well as a plethora of marine science info.
A massive thanks to Sharyn Goldstien from KnowledgeAble Communities who masterminded the weekend, and to Steve Jensen for technical and back up support. As well, thanks to Adele More, our local underwater documentary expert and to Dan Crossett and Robyn Dunmore from Cawthron Institute who brought cameras and expertise of a marine research nature! And finally a huge thank you to Takahanga Marae for hosting us and all the yummy food!
